Invasive Cut-out

There was a hawthorn tree taking over one of our hazelnut trees... so while there were leaves on both trees and we could tell them apart we cut out the invasive Single-seed Hawthorn.

The carnage! You can see the hazelnut on the left looks much thinned out now that the hawthorn is out.

Anyone who has had to haul single-seed hawthorn branches knows, there are some nasty thorns!

Some can be up to 2 inches long!

After that they turn into branches...

Crataegus monogyna / Single-seed Hawthorn

Single-seed Hawthorn is considered a nasty invasive species here in Oregon. The seeds are viable and will germinate almost anywhere, so you can get lots of little trees all around your property! They look like this when they first come up.

Most of the new little seedlings we get come from this very large tree that we can't seem to cut down just yet... it provides so much nice shade on our patio!
